Hi everyone. This week’s photo comes from our photo shoot of the NY Finger Lakes’ waterfalls. But I am not going to show you a waterfall but, instead some moving water on a stream.  After shooting many waterfall shots, I started to look around at the rest of my environment.  I noticed some water eddies producing an interesting shape. It looked to me like spokes on a wheel or a rotary (roundabout) with three roads coming from the oval center.

So, I set up my camera on a tripod, put on a polarizing filter to reduce the water glare, and put on a neutral density filter to darken the front of the lens. Darkening the lens front allows the shutter to stay open long enough to show water blur. Typically, one to two seconds is long enough to get a nice milky look to the water and convey water motion. I took the photo and looked at what I got. It was a mess. It certainly did not look like what I initially saw. With the water moving so much I realized I had to take many shots until I got the look I wanted.  I set the camera to take multiple shots, one after another. After another ten shots, I finally got what I wanted.

I see a roundabout or wheel with spokes. What do you see?

And remember, its all about the light.
