Needing a mental break and itching to shoot, we embarked on a weekend getaway to Boston. With the July 4th celebration behind us, the city was nice and quiet.  There wasn’t much traffic around town and getting a reservation at one of our favorite restaurants was easy.  And, inside the hotel was cool as apposed to the outside temperature which was hot, hot, hot!  The stage was set for a good weekend.

We try to add something new to each photo shoot that we do.  This time, we decided to put together a plan for what shots we wanted and where we wanted them. We researched the “best” location for shooting the Boston skyline.  Over and over, “people” said to shoot from Cambridge over the Charles River. Although a nice view, it certainly isn’t outstanding.  We tried at sunset and then again at sunrise the next morning. If you didn’t know, the sun rises awfully early in the summer (5:15am) leaving little time for sleep. As I said, nice but not outstanding.  Well, you be the judge:

We also tried out our new GPS that generates track logs. For you photo geeks, you can download the track log from the GPS and then import it into Lightroom. After doing this, Lightroom can automatically synch your photos with the track log to garner GPS and location data – adding this to the meta data of the photo.

We ended our quick trip to Boston with a walk around the MIT campus.  Here is where we put away our thoughts of landscapes and tried for interesting shots. We actually enjoyed this shoot more than the skyline – go figure. With all the shooting now done, we decided to cut the trip short by one day and head home (stopping at our favorite Chinese Restaurant on the way).  No need to hang around the hot city cooling off in a small hotel room.

Happy to be home and feeling refreshed, we are!
