For awhile we have been looking for a reason to return to the old ghost town of Haynes, AZ (just near Jerome, somewhat near Sedona). We have been wanting to re-take pictures of the old cars that are littered around the ghost town. On a day-trip to Sedona with our daughter, Rebecca, and her friend Junko, we decided on a quick detour to Haynes. What started out as a photo re-shoot of some old cars quickly became a photo shoot of interesting characters. Two of these characters were our own Rebecca and Junko.
These two are best of friends, who get along famously. But, oh, are they different! One of them is outdoorsy while the other – not so much. You can see this plainly in the photos below.
Junko is quite pleased with a kiss from Pedro Gonzales while Becca wishes she was shopping at the Coach store. Pedro’s owner, a character in his own right, looks on approvingly.
Pleased with my character shots of the girls, I stepped out of my comfort zone and talked with Pedro’s owner and coaxed him to sit atop an old jalopy:
I never did get his name. But, he was a very genial guy.
Happy with my three character shots I began the search for more. I was shooting a bunch of colorful chickens when I came across the sole resident of Haynes (is he a ghost?). Another very nice guy, who also gave me permission to shoot him. He obviously has posed before!
Finally, since our original objective was to shoot old cars, I guess we should show you one:
What do you think of my characters? And Kathryn’s car!
Remember, it’s all about the light!
